And mom, if you're reading this, thanks for being my Mama Bear.
If you have your own Mama Bear story you would like to share,
I've said it before, but I'll say it again: I'm a pretty timid and shy person. I always have been. As a kid, my Winnie the Pooh character of choice was Piglet. As a new mama, it has been a worry of mine that this would prevent me from being able to protect my child from the well-meaning, but unwelcome actions or speech of others. Well, my protective instincts were put to the test recently and I, that is to say, the Mama Bear inside me, prevailed. I am proud to say that I spoke up when the situation called for it. It was a strange experience because I felt the hairs on my neck tingle. I spoke without thinking, without missing a beat, and without anger. My tone was firm, and that was all that was needed. This brings to mind a similar situation that occurred during a family vacation when my mom protected me when she sensed danger. Even now I can hear the growl she used when she snapped, "Hey, back off!" And he did. Who can withstand the power in a mama's voice when she is protecting her young. I, for one, am thankful that it is in me for when I need it, even if it is not who I am on a daily basis.
And mom, if you're reading this, thanks for being my Mama Bear. If you have your own Mama Bear story you would like to share,

Hi. My name is Carley. I love to sew, craft, and create. As a Jane-of all-crafts so to speak, I enjoy sewing, writing, cooking, drawing, photographing. But the constant thread (if you'll excuse the pun) throughout my weeks is needle arts. Archives
