But I won't say any more than that! No, no, no. You absolutely will have to wait one more week to find out the big news. Also at the risk of revealing too much, I want to make sure you all know about the Six Weeks of Love for Softies event going on right now on Sew Mama Sew. There is a contest for prizes, including a new sewing machine. All you have to do is make a softie and submit a link on the submission page before April 5. You can be sure that I will be entering that! I hope you'll join in the fun as well.
I so badly want to show you the project I finished last weekend! I had an awesome opportunity fall into my lap about a month ago and it will finally be revealed in about seven more days. Oh, but I mustn't say too much. It's a secret. No, you will have to wait another week to find out my exciting news. But, since I've never been very good at keeping little secrets, I will give you a small hint in the form of a series of closeup pictures. But I won't say any more than that! No, no, no. “The present moment is filled with joy and happiness. If you are attentive, you will see it.”
― Thích Nhất Hạnh, Peace Is Every Step: The Path of Mindfulness in Everyday Life A Friday ritual adopted from SouleMama. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. After I discovered the delightful Once Around arts and crafts store last year when I had a hankering for some high quality quilting fabric, I have been back many times. For the entire month of March they have a sale on cottons, so I went yesterday to see what beautiful prints I could get my hands on. As I flipped through the one-yard cuts of fabric, I tried to keep all my different projects in mind, the ones that are still missing a piece or two. Well, I didn't make much progress there, but I did find four one-yard prints that are just beautiful. Although they are not my usual choices, I just fell in love with the colors and designs. Besides, a sale is the perfect time to step out of the usual and try something new, isn't it?
I think the purple wood grain, pink trees, and yellow-green with flowers all belong together. A quilt, perhaps? Or a bag? Or something else. I'm so glad I got there at the beginning if the sale. There were three or four other people there at the same time I was, all crowded into the narrow space in the fabric aisle. Who knows what will be left at the end of the month. But I'll probably head over again in a couple weeks anyway to see if they add anything new to their stock, or just to see if something else catches my eye. Who am I kidding? Of course I'll find something, even if it's all the same! March is a special month. On the 28th we will be celebrating my son's second birthday! It feels so strange to be mama to a toddler. Every time I get used to the way he is at one point in his development, he grows and changes. It's the constant challenge of parenthood I suppose. Last year, for Goen's first birthday, I made several things to provide a festive atmosphere for his party. The first was crocheted garlands to hang over the table and along the walls (the same ones I have for sale in my Etsy shop). The second was a cardboard bunting-style banner that says "Happy Birthday Goen" in big block letters. The third and most special thing was a felt birthday crown with beautifully-detailed embroidery. All these gifts I made for him are meant to be used year after year, accumulating memories along the way. The crown, though, will gain more than just memories. I designed it so that the tree at the front of the crown will get a new leaf as each birthday approaches. In just a few weeks I will stitch on the second leaf. It's a milestone I hope you will celebrate with me. To help start the festivities, I will be offering a free download of my crown pattern until the end of the month. Click the two buttons at the bottom of the post to download pdf files for the template and instructions. At the beginning of April I will be adding these to my Etsy shop with additional embroidery designs that I'm creating right now. If you make a crown, I do hope you'll share some pictures by leaving a link in the comments. Happy Stitching! Update: Although the free giveaway has ended, you can find the pattern for sale in my Etsy shop. |
